CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – The Cleveland Homicide Unit is investigating the murder of a pregnant woman and her fiance.
29-year-old Tyra Jones and her 34-year-old fiance Steve Matthews were found outside on Bryce Avenue both shot in the head Friday evening.
Jones was six months pregnant with her first child and was having a boy.
Cleveland Police say they received a report of a male shot around 10:30 p.m. on Bryce Avenue. Police arrived on scene and found Tyra Jones in the middle of the street and fiance Steve Matthews on the sidewalk.
Both were shot execution style in the head and pronounced dead on scene by EMS.
Family members of Tyra Jones spoke out to 19 Action News Sunday, a day that was supposed to be a celebration of mothers and their kids. "It's no Mother's Day, it's just a day. We are mourning for Tyra" said Ruth Jackson, Tyra's aunt.
Police have no suspects and haven't made any arrests. Nobody knows why the couple was on Bryce Avenue in the first place. "We don't know who they were going to see, we don't know why they were on that dead end street" said Tyra's sister Tiffany.
Tyra had a promising future and was a graduate of Central State University. She had worked at Charles Schwab for five years and was getting her master's degree from Cleveland State.
According to the Jones', Tyra and Steve had been together for five years and were engaged to be married. Steve Matthews' family currently lives in Jamaica.
Family members and the Cleveland Police are asking for the public's help solving the senseless murders. "If somebody knows what happened, please step up, that's all we ask" said Tyra's step-father Leroy Decembly. "We need some closure because it's heartbreaking... because we love Tyra, we'll always love Tyra."
