CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The convicted arsonist accused of blowing up a home on the city's westside that damage more than 72 neighboring homes is expected to begin trial Monday.
William Calderwood, 57, was indicted in February 2010, on 1 count of burglary and 72 counts of aggravated arson.
Prior to January 25, 2010, Calderwood had burglarized the house next door to his residence. The house, which he did not own, was located at 2022 W. 83rd Street.
Calderwood had broken off the lock-box of the house, stole the key, and then changed the locks on the house. He stole a washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove, hot water heater, kitchen cabinets, bedroom set, file cabinets, metal chairs, and pipes.
On January 25, 2010, Calderwood tampered with the gas line in the basement of this house. As a result, the house exploded, causing damage to 72 houses in the area.
Four people were injured.
