Two-year-old Jayden Stapleton was playing with other children in the back yard of the home around 6PM. A short time later, Jayden was found face down in a small pond by a family member. CPR was started and The Mentor Fire Department was called.
Jayden was rushed to Lake West Hospital, and then life-flighted to University Rainbow and Babies hospital where he died late last night.
Jayden's aunt tells 19 Action News the little boy was "an angel, a gift from God."
Neighbors are reacting to the terrible loss.
"It's a horrible feeling and my heart goes out to them and their family," said one neighbor.
"Mother's Day, especially, and it happened at grandma's house. Yeah, really sad," said Ken Smith of Mentor.
The incident remains under investigation.
