CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson presented his long-term plan for the city to council members Monday.
It includes a controversial proposal that has sparked controversy for years. The idea is to combine EMS and fire services in an effort to save the city money and possibly shorten response time.
The mayor stops short of calling it a merger but he wants police and fire unions to start talking so they can figure out how they can do more together.
"What we've done is set the direction. And I had a meeting today with the unions from communications, fire and ems and we'll work together on putting together a protocol, an approach to answer that very question," said Mayor Frank Jackson.
The mayor says whatever happens is open to discussion.
