14-year-old faces adult trial in 4-year-old's death

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A 14-year-old foster child will be tried as an adult in the beating death of a 4-year-old girl, a judge ruled.
Jai Chandler and his lawyer had fought the transfer from Summit County Juvenile Court to adult court, but Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio ruled Wednesday there was not enough time to rehabilitate the teen.
Chandler, charged with murder and felonious assault, will be moved from the juvenile detention center to the Summit County Jail, where he will be housed separately from adults.
If convicted, the boy could be sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 15 years.
Chandler was arrested in the Aug. 8 beating death of Tiffanie Johnson. A baby sitter told him and another 14-year-old foster child to watch the girl.
The other child, who witnessed the beating, was sentenced in Juvenile Court to four years in youth prison for voluntary manslaughter and other convictions.
