CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Warmer weekend weather allowed crews and residents to begin cleaning up debris from a massive house explosion that rocked the city's eastside Wednesday morning.

Three homes were leveled in the 17000 block of Federal Drive and more than twenty others were damaged when a vacant home exploded.

Dominion Gas crews told 19 Action News that residents say they smelled gas before the explosion,  but there were no actual reports of gas leaks. The home that exploded had recently had a higher gas reading.

Several homes caught fire but there were no serious injuries reported. Eleven people including a family of eight were taken to a local hospital and were treated and released later in the day.

The blast was felt as far away as Gates Mills and Maple Heights.

"All I heard was boom," said Sherrill Williams. "My whole house shook. I thought the house was on fire or the roof blew off. That's how bad it was. I was so terrified. I did not know what to do."
