Behind Bars: Man Accused of Murdering Retired Firefighter Arrested

ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) - Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Alliance Police Department have made and arrest for the murder of an Alliance City firefighter.

Saturday, Jeffery S. Phillip was arrested following a three month investigation into the murder of retired Alliance City Firefighter James Leeson, who was found dead in his home on March 11, 2010.

The extensive investigation included interviews with family, friends and others, following up on numerous leads and anonymous tips, and sifting through hundreds of pieces of evidence in an effort to bring a satisfactory conclusion to the investigation. The Canton/Stark County Crime Lab also assisted the investigation by processing the crime scene and other locations to locate and collect valuable evidence.

After a review of the evidence, Detectives were able to secure charges of Aggravated Murder, Aggravated Burglary, Tampering with Evidence and Arson on Jeffrey S. Phillips, who was taken into custody on Saturday, and transferred to the Stark County Jail, where he is being held on a $1,450,000 bond.

Phillips will be arraigned in Alliance Municipal Court on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010, at 2:45pm.
