Fatal Blow: Friend accused of throwing deadly punch acquitted by jury

PARMA, OH (WOIO) -

The jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a man who killed his friend with one punch.

Douglas Kovach, of Garfield Heights, was found Not Guilty of manslaughter and assault.

Kovach is accused of fighting with a friend, Nicholas Schoren, in June 2010.

The men were drinking inside Schoren's State Road apartment when Kovach killed him with one punch. Cops say Kovach hit Schoren on the right side of his head and he never got up.

Neighbors tell us there was never any trouble at the home. That this was an aberration. If so it is an aberration that changed many lives, ruined another and ended a life.

"I came out and saw all the police cars. It was all taped off. It was scary," said neighbor Pam Myers.

"They always say that you can't believe this happened to this person. I really can't believe it happened. I mean I'm totally shocked," said former neighbor Krystal Crites.

Krystal Crites used to live in the apartment above the fight.  She and others were in disbelief.

The 28-year old Schoren died from bleeding on the brain.
