VERMILION, OH (WOIO) - The Port Authority received a call around 7:30 a.m. Saturday for a deer in Lake Erie.

The deer was about a 1/2 mile out in the water. Rescuers were able to get the deer to shallow water, but couldn't get it out of the lake. The port authority said sometimes deer get out in the water then get disoriented as to where land is.

The deer was severely disoriented and exhausted. Rescuers aren't sure the deer will make it.
