Tragic: Sheriff Deputy Dies From Motorcycle Crash Injuries

JEFFERSON, OH (WOIO) - Ashtabula County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph N. DeFazio II died late Friday night from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash last month in Conneaut.

DeFazio, 66-years-old, was a 28 year vet with the Sheriff's Department. He was also a member of the SWAT team.

DeFazio was driving a motorcycle westbound May 27th on Lake Road when struck by a vehicle attempting to enter Lake from Mill Street. DeFazio suffered serious head injuries and was flown to a hospital in Erie, Pa.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and issued a traffic citation.

Funeral services for DeFazio are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, June 18th at the Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
