ASHTABULA, OH (WOIO) – Two Ashtabula Police officers are on administrative leave after a shooting over the weekend.

Santo Sanabria was loaded onto a stretcher after being shot by an officer outside his West Prospect Road home.

Police tell 19 Action News that it all started when they were called to Sanabria's house for a domestic dispute.

While arresting Santo Jr., police say his father jumped on the back of one of the officers and tried to grab the officer's gun from the holster.

A backup officer drew his weapon but did not shoot. After a brief struggle with Santo Sr., the officer got his gun back and shot Santos Sr. at least twice in the stomach. Santo Sr. was rushed to the hospital.

The wife of Santo Sr. was so overwhelmed by it all she passed out at the scene. 19 Action News is told that she will be okay. Her husband is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.

The two Ashtabula police officers are on administrative leave until the Sheriff's Department completes the investigation.
