(WOIO) - General David Petraeus, head of the U.S. wars in the Middle East and central Asia, fell ill Tuesday morning.
Petraeus was in a congressional hearing room when he apparently started to choke.
He was escorted from the room and later returned after eating.
When he got back, the room erupted into applause. Petraeus said "I felt a little bit light headed there. It wasn't Senator McCain's questions. I just got dehydrated."
The Senate Armed Services Committee, chaired by Senator Carl Levin, suspended its work for the day and is set to resume on Wednesday.
