Recovering: Man Hospitalized after falling onto RTA Train Tracks

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A local man recovering from a freak accident has been identified as Rio Cannon. 

The 20-year old apparently fell onto some train tracks, while a train was coming.

Witnesses say when Cannon heard the train coming he got up and walked forward. They think he must have stumbled and fell between the two trains.

"I was asking, was he okay? He wasn't saying nothing. He was just moaning, laying on the track," said one witness.

"When they got him on the stretcher, he seems like he was all right. He was moving his arm and they was holding his leg but he seemed to be not as bad as you would have thought."

According to family members Cannon has a broken hip, lacerations to the face, head and back. They say he is heavily sedated but expected be OK.

The accident happened around 2PM Tuesday at the East 55th Rapid Station.

Shortly after the accident an RTA spokesperson released this statement:

A man was taken to Metro General Hospital today, after being injured in an incident at 1:44 p.m.
Members of the Cleveland Fire Department found the man under a wooden platform at the East 55th Street Rapid Station, and cut a hole in the adjacent fence to reach him. They transported the man to the hospital.
There are conflicting reports as to how the accident happened.
The accident remains under investigation by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA).

Cannon was taken to Metro. He's listed in fair condition.

The conductor, whose name has not been released, was also taken to the hospital.
