MADISON VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) - An investigation is underway after a fatal police chase in Madison Village.

It happened just after 7PM Tuesday evening when a Madison Village cop tried to stop a James A. Soos, who was suspected of felonious assault related to a domestic issue.

Soos refused to stop his Dodge Durango and fled down River Street at a high rate of speed. He then entered I-90. Approximately a quarter mile east of the Grand River Bridge, Soos' vehicle drifted off the roadway, became airborne, struck the Grand River Bridge abutment and tumbled to the river bank approximately 280 feet below.

Soos was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The Ohio State Patrol and the Lake County Coroner's Office are continuing the crash investigation.

No other motorists or officers were injured.
