EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) - An East Cleveland City Council member told police a man jumped in his car and shot him on a Cleveland street.
O- Mays says he was hit in the hand as he tried to wrestle the gun away from the assailant. He says the gunman first aimed at his head.
The 62-year-old Mays says he was driving slowly on the Cleveland street as he looked for an address shortly after midnight Sunday.
He says the assailant approached his car, hopped inside and asked if he was with the police.
He says after the struggle and the shooting, the man got out.
Mays says his cell phone must have fallen under his car seat in the struggle. He drove himself to Huron Hospital and called police from there.
He was treated at Huron and released Sunday night.
