Hazard: Fuel Tanker Flips, Spills 8,200 Gallons of Fuel

NEWBURY, OH (WOIO) - A fuel tanker accident Saturday evening has leaked 8,200 gallons of fuel. Some of fuel went into Lake Punderson.

The 2007 fuel tanker was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline when it flipped along RT 44 and Music Street Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m.

The driver, 52-year-old Anthony Ward became entrapped but was later extricated by rescue crews and flown to MetroHealth Medical Center for unknown injuries.

The Ohio Department of Transportation shutdown a section of SR 44 for clean-up. State Route 44 in this area may be closed for several days and motorist need to utilize alternative routes.

EPA officials were called out to investigate the spill into the lake.
