Longest Serving Senator in U.S. has Died

FAIRFAX, VA (WOIO /CBS) - The longest serving Senator in U.S. history died Monday at the age of 92.

Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, VA.

Byrd was hospitalized is serious condition late last week.

At first he was believed to be suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration.

But his office said Sunday in a statement doctors had examined him and other medical conditions had developed.
