COLUMBUS, OH (WOIO) - Automobile License Plate Collectors Association, the biggest and most respected club for license plate collectors nationwide, will present the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS), the second place award for best new license plate.
Since its introduction in November 2009, sales of the Beautiful Ohio plate have outpaced sales of the Sunburst plate by a 7-to-3 margin. After judging all new license plates nationwide on categories such as attractiveness and legibility, the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association selected Ohio BMV's.
The new plate was designed with the help of Ohio's First Lady Frances Strickland.
The "Beautiful Ohio" plate is not a mandatory replacement for Ohio BMV customers; it is an option for those with current registrations to replace their current plates.
For standard combination plates only, Ohioans who prefer the "Sunburst" license plate will continue to have the option of choosing either the "Sunburst" or the "Beautiful Ohio" at local Deputy Registrar's until the inventory is depleted.
