Good Move: Shooting Victim Outsmarts Armed Thug by Playing Dead during Robbery

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Police are investigating a carjacking that ended in a shooting early Tuesday morning.

Cleveland Police tell 19 Action News that Tuesday morning around 2 a.m. Fourth District officers received a call for a male shot in the area of E. 119th and Kinsman.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 33-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the back.

While on scene, officers were informed by the victim that while parked and asleep in his mother's van in the 3200 block of E. 118th, an unknown individual shot through the passenger side window striking him in the back. After being shot, the victim laid still and played dead. The suspect then walked over to the driver's side of the van, pulled the victim out of the vehicle and threw him on the ground.

The suspect robbed the victim and stole his van. After the suspect left the victim got up, walked to the 3400 block of E. 117th and called EMS.

EMS responded to the scene and notified the Division of Police. Fourth District officers toured the area for the vehicle and were unable to locate it.

The victim, 33-year-old Antoine Blackshear, was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center by EMS, where he is being treated for his injuries. He has since been released

The stolen van was a white Chevrolet conversion van with license plate EQG9887.
