OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - Police are making a plea to the public for someone to come forward if they saw who ran down a pedestrian.

On June 6, just before 3AM a vehicle fatally struck 42 year old Jay P. Kovitch on Fitch Road in Olmsted Township.

The Olmsted Township Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification, Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office and State Highway Patrol are diligently investigating the incident.

Neighbors in the area say it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

"When the levy didn't pass...a lot of the parents had concerns about the kids walking to school because there are no sidewalks," said neighbor, Nicole Sackman.

Neighbors say there are no sidewalks around so people are forced to walk in the street.  Fred Biddulph says it's shocking but not surprising that a pedestrian was hit.

"People do get a little too close and people are driving too fast," said Biddulph.

The speeding such a problem - they teamed with the police department to put additional signs up, reminding people to slow down.

"They do 40 or 50 miles and hour, I've seen it before.  For somebody to go and hit this guy at 3 o'clock in the morning...turn yourself in. This guys family needs some closure. You need to come clean with what you did," said neighbor, Angie Palivek.

If you have any information on this tragic accident call Olmsted Township Police.
