Why are Car Insurance Rates going Up if the # of accidents are Down?

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Get ready to be ticked off if you own a car and pay insurance. You're Getting Squeezed because rates are going up, even though accidents are down in Ohio.

In fact, rates in many states have been rising steadily over the past couple of years.

No matter where you live, your rates will going up and accidents are the only things that increase insurance.

As states raise minimum coverage requirements, insurance companies pass the costs on to consumers.

"They look at medical costs. Weather related claims. How many cars are out on Ohio roads. Repair costs as well as how many accidents have occurred as well, said Jarrett Dunbar, Ohio Department of Insurance.

By the way, Ohio has 1.2 million drivers who do not carry car insurance and it has the 11th lowest insurance cost in the county.
