Dumb Driver: Akron Man Driving on Suspended License Flees after Running Down Motorcyclists

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Shortly before 10PM Tuesday night, Akron cops responded to a serious accident at North Main Street and East Lowell Avenue involving a Dodge Ram van, a motorcycle and a building.

The van was traveling south bound on North Main Street behind a motorcycle with two occupants. When the motorcycle slowed down to make a turn, the van struck the motorcycle then swerved and struck a building at 1027 North Main Street.

The driver - identified as Jerry W. Schaeffer - fled on foot from his vehicle and was located later near his residence in the Kenmore area, where he was taken into custody and booked into the Summit County Jail.

The occupants of the motorcycle were transported to Akron City Hospital where they are listed in stable condition.

27-year-old Schaeffer was charged with two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Hit Skip, Assured Clear Distance and Driving under a Suspended License.
