WILLOUGHBY HILLS, OH (WOIO) - A Willoughby Hills police officer and two others were injured overnight during a police chase.
Sunday evening, an officer saw a motorcycle with a male driver and female passenger speeding along I-271.
The officer attempted to make the traffic stop as the motorcycle turned onto I-90. While approaching the bike, the driver sped off.
The officer, whose name has not been released, radioed another officer who was further ahead on the freeway in the direction the motorcycle was traveling.
While the second officer was turning around his cruiser on the shoulder of I-90, the motorcycle crashed into the cruiser.
Both driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The driver got up and attempted to run off but the police officer caught him.
The officer was injured while chasing the suspect and was taken to University Hospital where he was treated and released.
The driver of the motorcycle was also taken to University Hospital in Richmond Heights then transported to MetroHealth Medical Center. The passenger was taken to Hillcrest Hospital.
According to police, the motorcycle was stolen from Lake County. The driver of the motorcycle did not have valid driver's license either.
There are no charges at this time, the accident remains under investigation with the Willoughby Hills Police Department.
