Skate Park Closed Indefinitely

BRUNSWICK, OH (WOIO) - A popular skate park is closing. Officials with the Brunswick Skate Park say vandalism is the main reason behind the closing.

This statement was released on Tuesday:

The Brunswick Skate Park, located adjacent to the Recreation Center at 4383 Center Road, is closed indefinitely. The decision was made after excessive vandalism was discovered to the facility's ramp structures on July 19, 2010. As a result, there are many unsafe conditions on several of the ramps as the transition plates were missing and plywood was removed.

After thorough inspection, it was determined that many of the ramps have great amounts of weather related deterioration. These ramps were originally built to be indoor equipment but were stationed outside. Over five years of weather exposure have caused the ramps to deteriorate beyond a state of repair.

The City of Brunswick is currently looking into alternatives to try to repair or replace the equipment. Unfortunately, funding is not readily available for the replacement and it will be a considerable amount of time before a final decision can be made.

We will appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as the City investigates all avenues to try to salvage the future of the skate park.
