CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A local funeral home hired to bury the city's poor, has been fired following a Carl Monday Investigation.
Investigator Carl Monday first exposed the funeral director hired to handle the burials and now, after conducting it's own review of the home's questionable billing practices, the city has canceled R. A. Prince's $200,000 contract.
"Receiving the complaint from Channel 19 caused us to look more closely at the contract," said Cleveland Health Director Matt Carroll.
Carroll has ordered an audit of the burial program.
That audit is expected to be completed and released in a few weeks.
In addition to the city's investigation, Carl and his Investigative Team have also been in contact with the state funeral director's board. The board says it's closely reviewing Channel 19's Investigation and will turn the findings over to the Ohio Attorney General.
The city, meanwhile, says it has reviewed its handling of the burial program, and has tightened up its procedures.
