ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - It's their duty to answer emergency calls day or night, but firemen at one local department were sound asleep when police needed them.
So 19 Action News asked the fire chief how could this happen?
It happened at 1:00 A.M. and the call came from a busy bar in downtown Elyria. Police were concerned about a potential fire code violation and danger to customers.
After several calls, it took a visit from a patrolman to stir the firefighters on duty.
As for the officer in charge who didn't hear that phone ring. He said it had been turned down to a low volume.
The chief says he still needs to ask some more questions then he'll decide what disciplinary action to take.
