CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - An arrest warrant was issued weeks ago for Maurice Lyons, so why wasn't he locked up?
Lyons was picked up Monday. Though he has not been charged, he was arrested in the death of his wife Tonya Hunter.
19 Action News has learned that Lyons not only had one arrest warrant, but two.
But when 19 Action News went looking for answers we were told that municipal court only has four employees looking for thousands of wanted suspects.
"Four guys going after 10,000 people your odds probably aren't that great. Typically they get about 100 arrests a year," said Paul Mizerak of the Court Apprehension Unit.
Tonya Hunter made 5 reports since March pointing the finger at her husband. Records show the threats included I'm gonna kill you. If he did it well not even two arrest warrants could stop him.
Hunter's family says the system let Tonya down.
