(WOIO) - New York City Police has finally reached a settlement with the family of Sean Bell.
Bell was killed in a hail of bullets outside a Queens strip club by NYPD as he was leaving his bachelor party. Officers involved say they thought he was armed, though no weapon was ever found.
Bell's family will receive more than $7 million. Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield, who were with him and suffered serious injuries, will receive $3 million and $900,000.
Lawyers for the family say the money will go to his two young children and will be administered by his fiancée Nicole Paultre-Bell.
Three of the five detectives involved in the Nov. 25 shooting were tried and acquitted of manslaughter charges in 2008.
