CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Thursday morning Maurice Lyons will go to court for murdering his wife.

42 year old Tonya Hunter Lyons was found stabbed to death Sunday night in her garage.

Wednesday family members held a rally and candlelight vigil for Tonya, remembering her life not the terrifying way she died.

"Thank you so much. She deserves this outpouring of love and time in the rain."

The 42 year old marriage counselor was stabbed 17 times. People who live in the neighborhood are still stunned by it.

"I didn't know her personally, but I wish I had."

"Its okay to know them, to know a horrible scream, a routine scream and know what's a scream for please please help me. That's what she wanted was some help."

But Tonya Hunter didn't get the help she needed.

Weeks ago, she filed domestic violence complaints against her husband, there was an arrest warrant, but police couldn't find him. Now she's dead.

The husband is also accused of taking Tonya's 4 year old son away from the murder scene, and dropping him off miles away, in the middle of the street. A stranger picked him up and called police.

"God bless that person who grabbed that baby, cause it could have been a could have been a pervert."

Tonya's friends and neighbors are vowing to do everything they can to help raise the child.
