NORTON, OH (WOIO) - The cause of the July 31st fire which killed a father of three remains under investigation.
Summit County investigators wrapped up their on-scene examination of the fire, but are still searching for a cause. Investigators are awaiting the autopsy results from the Summit County Coroner's Office before a final determination will be made.
Christopher Wertman was killed in the deadly kitchen fire over the weekend.
Cell phone video captured the scene just after the fire started in Norton Saturday night.
"There were flames still coming out of the house, that's why I took the video," said witness Rick Brean. "Until they got the fire under control, there was a lot of smoke coming out."
Neighbors tell 19 Action News the 38-year-old lived at the home with his parents, who had left for vacation hours before flames erupted.
"Really nice guy," said one neighbor of Wertman. "Happy go lucky."
Investigators will be back on scene today to try and determine what sparked the blaze.
The coroner's office will be conducting an autopsy on Wertman to find out his exact cause of death.
