Split Up: President Obama's approval rating is clearly divided by race

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - President Obama's approval rating is pretty low right now and there seems to be a trend involved.

A year and a half into his presidency, Barack Obama's job approval rating is holding steady at 46% but what's interesting is the huge difference of opinion between blacks and whites.

According to the latest Gallup poll, a full 88% of blacks approve of the president's job performance compared to only 38% of whites.

A stunning 50 percentage point difference.

When talking to people in Euclid tonight, 19 Action News found the very same trend.

"I'm seeing the pre-existing condition and my sister has cancer so I have to give him a thumbs up for that."

"I just feel like he's doing a good job, that's my opinion."

But when asked another resident whether they would rate the president's job performance as positive or negative, he replied, "Very negative, no jobs created. It's all about spending and not about saving, you need tax breaks in order to drive business here."

"I give him a thumbs down. He didn't pull the troops out like he said he would and jobs are way down right now."

"I even voted for him and now I wish I didn't."

If you think it's all about color, you'd be wrong. Bill Clinton had a 90% approval rating among black voters, much higher than whites.
