Browns Bust: NFL'er accused of DUI, hit and run pleads not guilty

 CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A Cleveland Browns player arrested after a wild weekend went before a judge Monday morning.

25-year-old Defensive Back Gerard Lawson is accused of fleeing after hitting a parked car while drunk. Sheriffs deputies on downtown patrol saw Lawson leaving the scene of an accident on West 3rd Street near St. Clair. Deputies followed and apprehended Lawson on West 6th Street. Lawson was cooperative with authorities at the time of his arrest.

Lawson is charged with two misdemeanors - driving under the influence and physical control of a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to both counts in court. Lawson remains out on bond and is due back in court on August 17th.

Tom Heckert, General Manager of the Cleveland Browns, released the following statement:

"We are aware of the situation with Gerard and are continuing to gather all the information. Until we have done that we will not make any further comment."
