CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Alcoa announced in late July there would be a layoff of 71 employees and that they're eliminating third shift production.

The cuts are effective Monday, August 9th and the employees will work through the weekend.

Alcoa currently has just over 1,000 workers in the Cleveland area.

The company is the world leader in the production and management of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and alumina combined, through its active and growing participation in all major aspects of the industry: technology, mining, refining, smelting, fabricating, and recycling.
