ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - Firefighters in Elyria say the outside heat may have touched off a factory fire.
Firefighters were called to United Initiators just before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials say the fire occurred in the outside skimming pool which is used to separate product from waste.
Firefighters say as the fire was suppressed, some of the product drained into the city's storm-sewer.
The city's waste water department was contacted to determine if there was any danger to the public.
The Ohio EPA was contacted as well.
Officials say today's heat is believed to be the cause of the fire with the chemical being skimmed organic peroxide. It has a low flashpoint and today's temperature could have been a contributing factor.
Multiple agencies assisted the Elyria Fire Department including the Amherst Fire Department, Avon Fire Department, Lorain Fire Department and Eaton Township Fire Department.
