STREETSBORO, OH (WOIO) - State Patrol is investigating a horrific accident on the Ohio Turnpike Monday.
It happened near the 190.5 east bound mile marker.
Altogether three tractor-trailers and five personal vehicles were involved.
With the help of four other fire departments. Streetsboro fire say when they arrived, one tractor-trailer was on fire. The driver of that vehicle was ok.
Police say a tractor-trailer, being driven by Douglas Bouch rear-ended Susan Slattery's car pushing it into Jonathan Wiedman's semi. Bouch never stopped, hitting five more cars before slamming into the concrete barrier wall.
The only victims from this crash were in the first car hit.
12 year old Matthew Slattery from Cockeysville, MD sustained multiple systems trauma. He was found unconscious and remained unconscious during on scene treatment. He was then transported to Akron Children's Hospital via Metro Life Flight.
16 year old Peter Slattery of Cockeysville, MD was treated for a possible hip and left foot fracture. Police say he was alert during and was stabilized and was also transported to Akron Children's Hospital via University Hospitals MedEvac helicopter.
47 year old Susan Slattery also of Cockeysville, MD was the driver of the Focus. She was trapped in the vehicle and was found unconscious. EMS and fire crews had to work through the wreckage to remove Susan from the car.
Once emergency crews were able to get to her, they discovered that she did not have a pulse and was not breathing.
The Portage County Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Ohio Turnpike was closed in both directions for nearly two hours. The west bound lanes reopened at approximately 1:30 p.m. East bound traffic was moved to the right side berm was allow to begin moving at approximately 1:50 p.m.
Final fire department and EMS units cleared the scene just before 2:00 p.m.
Also during the crash, thirty gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the highway. The Portage County Hazardous Materials Team oversaw the cleanup along with help from the Portage County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
