South Carolina investigators say Shaquan Duley's story of how her two young boys died just didn't add up.
The 29-year-old mother claimed she was in accident and her car ended up in the North Edisto River with her two sons still inside.
"She says she suffocated children and placed them in the water," said Sheriff Larry Williams of the Orangeburg County Police Department.
Monday, divers found the bodies of 18-month-old Ja-Van Duley and his two-year-old brother, Devean, in the river strapped in their car seats.
Police say Duley was unemployed, living with her mother and struggling to make ends meet. Investigators say she just wanted to be free.
They add Duley killed her children after a dispute with her own mother and that she didn't show any remorse during questioning.
