(WOIO) - At least 60 people are dead and more than 125 wounded after a suicide bombing in Baghad on Tuesday. Officials say insurgents targeted a military recruitment center.
Hundreds of Iraqi Army recruits were waiting in line early Tuesday morning when a suicide bomber blew himself up.
The massive blast took place outside an Army division headquarters in the heart of the capital. It's the deadliest bombing in weeks, as insurgents continue to step up their attacks ahead of the U.S. withdrawal.
Officials say the military center was packed with as many as 1,000 Iraqi recruits hoping to sign up on the last day of registration.
Iraqi security forces are trying to boost their numbers as American forces begin to leave the country.
By the end of the month, all but 50,000 U.S. troops will go home.
