COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) – A killer black bear was put to sleep Saturday afternoon following a fatal attack at an exotic animal sanctuary.
Saturday, a state veterinarian was headed to Lorain County to euthanize the 8-year-old black bear, but the owner of the bear, Sam Mazzola had his own vet put the bear down.
The bear fatally attacked 24-year-old Brent Kandra who worked at Sam Mazzola's exotic animal sanctuary Thursday evening.
Kandra's family members told CBS news "he really enjoyed what he did and wanted to learn as much as he could about it…he really enjoyed being a part of that operation."
Kandra had worked at the exotic animal sanctuary a few times a week and had known the bear that killed him since he was a cub.
Brent's funeral is expected to take place Thursday or Friday, but the arrangements are still pending.
