AKRON, OH (WOIO) – Get ready for the orange barrels! Starting Tuesday, I-76 is going through a major overhaul.
The area to be concerned about is the Kenmore leg of I-76, which technically runs north and south.
It's the span of I-76 west of downtown Akron that requires drivers in both directions to exit the highway if they want to stay on I-76.
The stretch also connects with I-77 and 277, and U.S. 224.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is shutting down the eastbound lanes through 10am on Friday.

Westbound lanes will be closed from August 31st to September 3rd.
The closure will affect about 127-thousand vehicles daily.
O-DOT recommends motorists use route 224/I-277 and I-77 south of the central interchange as a detour.
The work is part of a larger project to repair several bridges on I-76. The project is expected to be done in mid-October.
