Officer shoots man in stolen car

CLEVELAND (AP) - A police lieutenant fatally shot a man who struck him with a stolen car Wednesday, police said.
The suspect, a 38-year-old Columbus man, died at MetroHealth Medical Center. His name was withheld until his family could be notified.
Lt. Edwin Torres, a 23-year veteran, was treated for minor injuries.
Detective Nancy Dominik, a police spokeswoman, said Torres saw a man driving a car that had been reported stolen.
The man saw Torres and attempted to speed off, but slammed into a parked car. As Torres stepped out of his cruiser, the man again tried to drive away and hit Torres, knocking the officer down.
Dominik said Torres feared the man would hit him again and shot the suspect.
Torres will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
