Police identify man killed in police shooting

CLEVELAND (AP) - Police Thursday identified a man who struck an officer with a stolen car, then was fatally shot by the officer.
Kenneth Watkins, 38, of Columbus, was killed Wednesday after police said he drove into Lt. Edwin Torres.
Torres, a 23-year police veteran, was treated for minor injuries and released from Metro Health Medical Center.
Police spokeswoman Nancy Dominik said Torres was driving in a city neighborhood when he saw a man driving an AMC Hornet that had been reported stolen.
Watkins saw Torres' police cruiser and attempted to speed off.
The suspect's car slammed into a parked car near the intersection.
As Torres stepped out of his cruiser, Watkins again tried to drive away and hit Torres, knocking him down, police said.
Police said Torres feared Watkins would turn the car on him again so he shot him.
Torres was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, which is department procedure.
