Ex-insurance agent gets 6½ years in investment fraud

CLEVELAND (AP) - A judge sentenced a former insurance agent to more than 6½ years in prison Wednesday for stealing $5.3 million from his investment clients.
U.S. District Court Judge Dan Polster sentenced Dragan John Tijanich, 54, of Amherst, on his guilty plea to bank fraud.
He also was ordered to make nearly $4 million in restitution to New York Life Insurance Co.
The former owner of the Tijanich & Associates agency in Westlake admitted that he lied to 50 clients when he told them that he put their money into real-estate deals that yielded high interest with no taxes.
The scheme lasted six years. In December, a client who lost $170,000 called New York Life about the investment. New York Life, which was unaware of the scam investments, has reimbursed the victims.
