PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - A man was sentenced to nine years in prison in the death of his 9-month-old daughter, who died of burns from hot bath water.
Daniel Hickle's sentence was one year less than the maximum penalty he could have received Friday from Ottawa County Common Pleas Judge Keith Moon.
Hickle, 19, of Port Clinton, was convicted June 5 of involuntary manslaughter. His daughter, Chasity Hickle, died in a hospital Sept. 21, a day after she suffered second-degree burns over 90 percent of her body.
Hickle and a friend were asleep when Chasity's older sister, Kaitlin, filled a bathtub with hot water and the infant either "fell in or was helped by the 2-year-old," investigators said.
After Chasity was in the tub, Kaitlin woke up her father, who called 911, authorities said.
Hickle's wife, Jennifer Hickle, was at work at the time.
