WAUSEON, Ohio (AP) - A 105-year-old woman has donated $1.25 million to help this northwest Ohio city build a 73-acre park featuring baseball diamonds, soccer fields and walking trails.
Dorothy Biddle, a lifelong resident of the city, was honored Wednesday for her donation. Biddle, wiping away tears, said it was her way of giving back.
"I really don't deserve all this," Biddle said. "I've been around the world, and I always tell people Wauseon is the best place in the world to live."
Biddle said it was just a few months ago she realized just how much money she had earned from stocks she collected more than 50 years ago.
The city has been seeking grants to help pay for the $3 million park.
Mayor Jerry Matheny said Biddle's donation will make the park a reality five or six years ahead of schedule.
Wauseon is about 30 miles west of Toledo.
