Astute neighbors run down bold burglar in Akron

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An attentive neighbor in Akron's West Side helped to catch a burglar red handed on Monday.

Around 11AM Monday morning, two neighbors on Goodhue Drive noticed what they thought was suspicious activity. The neighbors noticed a broken east side window on the home next door and knew that the homeowner was away. They decided to contact police.

The neighbors then noticed a man walking out the west side door. As the neighbors told the suspect to stop, he bolted from the property. After a short foot chase, the neighbors were able to apprehend the suspect and hold him down until police arrived.

Officers arrested 43-year-old Joseph S. Marcella. He was charged with burglary and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Officers recovered a cell phone, two gold watches and multiple identifications taken in the burglary.
