Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates plane crash

CHARDON, OH (WOIO) - The Chardon Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol was advised of a plane crash at the Geauga County Regional Airport.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned that a 1974 Beach Craft Bonanza F33A was attempting to land on the runway, the pilot failed to engage the landing gear and the aircraft slid on its bottom for approximately 732 feet before coming to rest on the runway.

The pilot, Craig Shanower, 68, of Burton was the single occupant of the aircraft.

The FAA was contacted and will inspect the aircraft on June 3rd.

The crash remains under investigation.
