Fiery Stark County crash kills one


One person was killed in a fiery crash between a van and pickup truck Thursday evening in Marlboro township.

The crash happened just after 8pm p.m. at the intersection of State Street and Paris Avenue.

The names of the victims and injured have not yet been released.

The Ohio Highway Patrol, Marlboro Township Police and the Marlboro Fire Department all responded to the scene.

The Marlboro Twp. Police Chief said a four-wheel drive pickup truck was northbound on Paris Avenue when the driver ran through the stop sign at State Street and hit a Ford minivan which was headed eastbound on State Street. The minivan was pushed into a power pole and caught fire.

The female victim in the van was killed. Police say she burned to death. Bystanders tried to put out the fire and get to the woman, but the fire was too hot.

The driver of the truck, an 18 year-old male, and his passenger, a 19 year-old male, were injured and taken to a local hospital.

Charges are pending against the driver at this time police do not believe alcohol is a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
