Barking dog, neighbors save family from house fire

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Residents of a home located at 38 Belvidere Way were saved by neighbors Saturday morning when their home went up into flames.

Fire broke out in the living room of the home around 6:30 a.m.

Akron Fire reports the family's dog was barking so loud that it woke up neighbors who ran over and were able to save the family.

Fire crews arrived on scene and found all of the occupants removed from the structure with heavy smoke showing. A barking dog alerted neighbors and those inside of the home of the fire before the smoke alarm went off.  Occupants were helped to safety by neighbors who placed a chain ladder to roof and caught children being handed down by their mother from the roof.

Also, one neighbor took his commercial size extinguisher and discharged it into the fire which knocked down a lot of flames preventing more damage to the home and the residents.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time.

Crews estimated the damage around $7,000.
