Arrest in Thanksgiving morning murder of Mentor-on-the-Lake bartender

MENTOR ON THE LAKE, OH (WOIO) - Mentor-on-the-Lake Police arrested 26-year-old Joseph Thomas for the murder of Ann McSween.

49-year-old McSween was leaving her shift at Mario's Lakeway Lounge Thanksgiving morning when she was attacked behind the building. Cops say she ran to a nearby home to get help, and frantically knocked on the windows. Too scared to answer McSween's cries, the homeowner called 911 instead.

Meanwhile, the killer dragged McSween's badly beaten body away from the house, and she died. Police found blood on the window where she sought help, and a trail of blood leading away from the house.

Mentor-on-the-Lake Police and Madison Township Police Department participated in the arrest of Thomas.  Mentor-on-the-Lake Police were assisted in the investigation of the slaying by agents from Attorney General Michael DeWine's  Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, detectives from Mentor Police Department, Eastlake Police Department and Willoughby Police Department.

Additionally assisting were investigators from Prosecuting Attorney Charles Coulson's Office, the Lake County Crime Lab, the  lab at BCI&I, and coroners' offices from both Lake and Cuyahoga Counties.

Thomas is expected to be arraigned at Mentor Municipal Court tomorrow at 8AM.
