Akron officer charged after funds missing from youth program

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Police Officer, Erik Keenan, a nine year veteran, has been charged with felony theft following a lengthy investigation into missing funds from the Akron Police Department Explorers Post.

Keenan was an advisor for the Akron Police Department Explorers Program.  It's comprised of youth ages 14 - 20 that are interested in careers in law enforcement.

Officer Keenan resigned from the police department effective June 09, 2011. He was assigned to the Akron Public Schools, Community Learning Centers.

Officer Keenan appeared in Akron Municipal Court at 9:00 this morning where a signature bond was set at $5,000.00.

His next court appearance is set for June 24th.
